In fact, how you answer interview questions can enable you land a job in which you are not the candidate of best fit. It boils down to impressing the panelists. What are soft skills?

How can you apply soft skills in problem solving?

Soft skills will enable you to first analyze and clearly define the problem. Explain a situation where you have had to work with a difficult person

Explore a conflict that threated to derail a task or project and how you and the other party had to put aside personal concerns to collaborate effectively. Be professional and do not criticize maliciously. Mention the final results and how you eventually contributed to conclusively resolving the matter.

If you were a manager, what would your staff say about you?

This is an indirect question alluding to your management style and how you treat those below you. Give an example such as when a team failed and you gave them another chance. Highlight how you have treated employees who fail with dignity, and forgiveness helping them to find their way.

How do you build relationships in new surroundings?

Here, recruiters want to determine your ability to quickly fit in. Narrate how you quickly joined employee forums and clubs, met up with coworkers on the first weekend, went out to lunch, etc., and how it helped you clearly determine their workplace roles.

Would you describe yourself as an adaptable person?

Say yes and narrate an instance where you held a certain point of view and had to change in the face of increasing evidence. It could be a set way of doing things that you had to change or tweak. You could also give an example of when you had to think on your feet to avert a disaster, or lessen the effects thereof.

How do you stay motivated/how do you motivate others?

Passion for the job makes you motivated and you motivate others by example, by taking the lead, and by going the extra mile. Mention how a mistake impacted your drive momentarily and how you put maximum effort into the next opportunity to redeem yourself.

For every answer, predetermine an example based on your past. Keep in mind that you will also be answering a soft skills question by how you conduct yourself during the interview. So, proper body language, a smile, good posture, and courtesy are all mandatory.
